This is actually the first thing that everyone who’s familiar with the first game notices. Nidhogg 2 feels like a fuller version of its fundamentals with expanded art and music. The Final Word Describing Nidhogg 2 as more of the same I think undersells the work Messhof put in to make it stand above its predecessor. That isn’t to say that the graphics aren’t important. Nidhogg 2’s overall presentation fits in well with its frenetic gameplay. It doesn’t make all that much sense, but this is one indie title where gameplay is more important than anything else. Nidhogg 2 isn’t just a sequel but rather a better-realized successor that aims to capitalize on everything that its predecessor great, and then some. Rinse, repeat, and reach the final screen to be eaten by the mythical Nidhogg. The premise of the sequel is pretty much the same as the first kill your opponent and run as far as you can in the way you’re facing until the other player respawns. The pixel graphics of the original have been updated but the fast and accessible fighting has stayed intact.

The first game in the series is where the devs made their mark a fast paced game about dueling fencers trying to outrun their opponent. Nidhogg provides immersive and quite addictive gameplay, simple controls, and brilliant graphics details. Despite its problems, Nidhogg 2 is spectacular, engrossing, funny, tragic, and dramatic in equal. The game offers four different game modes, such as Single-player, Local Multiplayer, Levels, and Online Multiplayer Modes, and each one is offering robust gameplay than the last one. The new weapons and busy aesthetic can frustrate, making the overall package feel less refined, but the core gameplay still shines through.
A gameplay demonstration was recently showcased on PS Underground with the two creators, Mark Essen and Kristy Norindr. Nidhogg 2, then, adds a lot without really adding much at all. However, as a party game, Nidhogg is hard to beat. The gameplay is easy to learn but difficult to master, but the lack of map variety hurts its replayability in the long run.

Their latest work, Nidhogg 2, is slated to come out for PC and PS4 in summer of this year. Messhofs Nidhogg is a game that combines gameplay as finely tuned as any triple-A titles with a stylish retro art style and a short but catchy soundtrack. The Californian based studio Messhof has come a long way in 5 years.
